Gareth Southgate on the Crisis Facing Young Men

So the cat’s out of the bag…

Over the past few months, we’ve had the privilege of working on a project that feels important and deeply personal.

Gareth Southgate: Changing the Game for Young Men is a new BBC documentary exploring the challenges facing young men and boys across the UK – from mental health and identity to education, employment and isolation.

Moving beyond headlines and polarised debates, it creates space for honest conversations about what many young men are really experiencing and why so many feel disconnected, unheard or uncertain about their future.

Through conversations with boys struggling at school, young men out of work, those growing up without father figures, and young inmates in prison, the documentary asks difficult but necessary questions about where support is failing – and what could help turn things around.

Working on this project has been eye-opening, emotional at times, and a real reminder of how urgently these conversations need to happen.

We’re proud of the entire team who’ve approached this subject with empathy, honesty and humanity, and grateful to everyone who shared their stories so openly.
